About

The historic Hundred House Inn, Bleddfa reopened in September 2011 after being closed for nearly two years.

New owners Brian and Brenda Warburton have completely refurbished and renovated the building, doing nearly all the work themselves. The couple, from Wigan, have been in the hotel business for over 20 years. They previously ran their own businesses, including an ice cream parlour and fruit shop.

At Bleddfa they serve home-made food daily with meat and other produce from local suppliers.

The Hundred House obtained its unusual name because for at least 300 years a court of the Hundred was held here, This court was held from 1524 (if not earlier) and continued to be held here until 1867 when both the Hundred Court and the Petty Sessions Court were transferred to Penybont. During the 18th. Century the parochial church council (or parish meeting) was held at the Hundred House, but the church wardens discreetly noted that the meeting was held in “the usual place“.

The Hundred was originally the gathering together of a hundred families and later of a hundred townships. As an English institution it is known from the 10th. Century while its equivalent in Wales is the Cwmwd or Commote and this is of slightly later origin. The work of the Hundred Court was of great importance in local affairs because it touched the everyday life of the community.
